San Rafael Swell – Spring 2015
This time around the geocaching event hosted by Udink was at Bellevue Flats/Red Ledges area of the Swell. We arrived Thursday afternoon and were the first to arrive. I knew the weather was going to be iffy the entire weekend but decided to go anyways. Ken & Jan arrived shortly after we got settled in with Terry, Karen and Nick shortly thereafter. Dennis was the next to arrive about 2 hours later followed by Karin & Ashlee, Christine & Daphne, Chris & Rebekah. I didn’t waste any time getting some of the caches that were close to camp. Getting up the next morning the sun was out and it looked to be a nice day and indeed it was. A few us us set out on the quads to grab some caches. We headed into North Coal Wash towards Slipper Arch. This was a beautiful ride with lots to see and explore. We even got to see some wildlife. One 3-4′ Garter snake and a 4’+ Gopher. We wanted to do Devils Racetrack but ran out of time and the weather was starting to turn for the worse. Saturday was spent mostly just hanging out and grabbing a few more caches close to camp because the rain moved in again and was pretty much on and off all day. The rain made it a little difficult to cook with the dutch ovens but we were able to pull it off. Like always the potluck was awesome despite the crappy weather. The rain was relentless Saturday night with raining on and off all night. By the next morning I was eager to get on the road so we got things packed up. I took a little stroll to check out the road leading into camp and also the main road. It was messy to say the least.
